Mrs. Shields is extremely excited to announce that County Prep Theatre Arts received two Foxy Awards this year, for Outstanding Achievement by an Acting Ensemble of a Virtual Play (Zoom Format: Live Streamed or with Limited Editing), for the Acting Ensembles of our two virtual shows, Now What? Every Actor’s Dilemma during the Great Quarantine and Holiday Show. Our three virtual 2020 and 2021 productions had earned the cast and crew a total fourteen Foxy award nominations this year.

The Foxy Award winners for Now What? were: Class of 2020 Seniors Yvelisse Vargas, Tyla Gibson, Dynajah Smith, Giovani Garcia, and Janelle Garcia, Class of 2021 Seniors Alyssa Anglade, Kayla Velazquez, Arbaz Khan, and Ivellisses Segovia, and Juniors Mathew Segovia, Reanna Cruz, Jaden Misaro, and Fred Veloz.

The Foxy Award winners for the Holiday Show were: Seniors Alyssa Anglade, Kayla Velazquez, Ariel Rivera, Arbaz Khan James Quach and Ivellisses Segovia, Juniors Mathew Segovia, Reanna Cruz, Jaden Misaro, Fred Veloz, Emely Rivera, Tatyana Serrato, and Ethan Barragan.

The award winners were announced on May 24th, at the Theatre Night Awards virtual ceremony hosted by Montclair State University, an incredibly memorable event, attended by high schools from across the entire state, which were nominated from the initial 70 or more participating high schools.

This program was established in 2009 by Montclair State University Theatre and Dance Department professor Susan Kerner and Mahwah High School teacher JoAnne Fox. They conceived the event to provide a balance for the popularity of the high school musical and its celebration at well-established awards ceremonies in New Jersey and the region.

This competition is open to all secondary schools in the state of NJ, and only to straight play productions. The event is a positive educationally based community building experience. Students are able to share their work with other students and to be recognized outside their own high schools. This outside recognition has direct benefits for students and teachers in districts throughout the state.
