Please review our Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How will the student’s counselor know how to submit documentation? 
    • Most counselors have set up an account with our online portal. They will receive an email notification that the student has applied. 8th grade counselors who are not set up with our online portal will be contacted by our Admissions Department.
  • How will I know if the counselor submits documentation?
    • Applicants will receive an email notification once the counselor uploads or mails in all documentation required. Please allow the counselors the allotted time to submit the records (12/11/20).
  • What criteria is being considered when reviewing my child’s application? 
    • Standardized test scores, Program Choice, Transcript (Grades 5-7), Essay, 8th Grade Report Card and Recommendation Letter(s) will be reviewed.
  • Are applications reviewed based on the date the application is submitted?
    • No. The review process for all applications begins after the counselor documentation due date 12/11/20. Applications are NOT reviewed on a first come, first serve basis.
  • How do I check the status of an application?
    • Application status is not available by phone or email. Please be patient with the review process.
  • What should I write in the essay?
    • Tell us why County Prep is your school of choice. What strengths and talents will you bring to our school community?
  • Who can I list for a recommendation letter?
    • The required recommendation must be from a teacher. The 2nd recommendation is Optional and can be from a teacher, counselor, etc.
  • Is there an entrance exam?
    • There is no entrance exam.
  • Is a portfolio required? What is a portfolio? What do I put in the portfolio?
    • County Prep does NOT require portfolios. However, students are encouraged to submit one if they choose. Portfolios highlight your talents, accomplishments and interests. Please submit as a Google Slides Presentation and use a personal (not school-issued account). Please turn on public access.
  • What is the process for the audition/placement class for Performing Arts/Dance and Performing Arts/Theatre?
    • Dance and Theatre Applicants will complete the information required within the application.
  • Will the student be accepted into their major?
    • Students accepted to County Prep are accepted into the major of their choice.
  • Will there be an option to tour the school? Is there a “Freshman for the Day”?
    • No. Unfortunately students are unable to tour the school. We do not offer “Freshman for a Day”.
  • How many students attend County Prep?
    • County Prep has approximately 1100 students.
  • Are there uniforms or a dress code?
    • We do not have uniforms. However, there is a Board Approved Dress Code Policy on our website. This policy requires students to wear a school issued ID.
  • Do you take transfer students?
    • Transfer students may submit an application. However, normally we are unable to accommodate transfers due to space limitations. *Transfers must be approved by the Building Principal and Superintendent.* 
  • When will I be notified of a decision?
    • The admissions process is ongoing. County Prep begins emailing acceptances in Mid-February, 2021 and finishes on March 31, 2021. All students will receive a notification of acceptance or decline by March 31, 2021.
      *Please note, acceptance emails are not sent out according to your sending school. Please be patient. Not all students in a particular school will receive notifications at the same time.*
  • How can I appeal a decision? 
    • Only 8th grade Applicants may appeal a decision. ALL Appeals MUST  be submitted directly, using the “Complete a File Review” link in the denial email. Please submit a statement explaining the reason for the appeal. There is a specific window of time to Complete the File Review. Once that has ended we are unable to accept a File Review Request.
  • Are there any fees associated with my child’s acceptance? 
    • All Freshmen are required to pay a $600 registration Fee (includes District Issued Chromebook). 10th,11th and 12th graders will asked to pay annual student activity fee of $350.00.
