County Prep Fashion Students Make Mittens from Recycled Sweaters

Sustainability in fashion is a hot topic these days. County Prep students know that the fashion industry is one of the major polluting industries in the world. Students are doing their part in helping the environment by recycling and repurposing old sweaters and fleece hoodies. Instead of the old ripped or stained sweater ending up in the trash, they are used by the fashion students to create stylish mittens.

Bernie Sanders is not the only one wearing recycled mittens.

Bernie Sanders’s mittens are made by Jen Ellis, a teacher from Essex Junction, VT. She gifted Sanders a pair of her sustainably-made mittens several years ago. They are made from repurposed wool sweaters and lined with fleece made from recycled plastic bottles.

County Prep Mittens will be donated to a local shelter.

*Donations of sweater and fleece hoodies will be gladly accepted by the fashion design class.
